By now, you probably have a good idea what blogging is all about. A blog, or weblog, is similar to a diary on the Internet that discusses your life or an area that is of interest to you. It is more personally motivated than many websites, and is considered to be one of the many methods of social media. If you have a blog you need to improve, or are wanting to start up a new one, keep reading for some great ideas.
Don’t overuse plug-ins, ads, keywords or images. This will send up red flags to the search engines, which will negate all of your previous efforts. Let your prose flow smoothly and naturally.
Making frequent and interesting comments on the blog’s of other people is a great way to increase exposure to your own. If you decide to use Google Reader, it is wise to have another folder within it in order to follow other blogs. It’s a great idea to post regular comments, in fact post them anytime you have something to say!
Blog on a regular basis. One way that many new bloggers fail is that they start a new blog and only update it once every two weeks or less. Those that have become interested in your blogs will lose that interest if you don’t provide new material on a frequent basis. Beginning bloggers should aim to post one blog a week and send out an email update when they do this.
Be honest about what you do and don’t know. Don’t pretend to know everything. Instead, try to maintain a persona that is honest and transparent. Keep this in mind at all times. You can and should use your blog to express your individuality, uniqueness and identity. Don’t strive for perfection; this is a waste of time. Just strive to improve yourself through your blogs. If you make a mistake, don’t torture yourself about it. You’re unique and nobody is you, but you.
Keep blog posts short, sweet and relevant. Don’t use too many words or go on for too long, as your readers will lose interest. Provide details without making your blogs overly long. Most of your blog followers don’t expect, or want, you to go on and on about minor details. Readers want to get essential information from blogs; they are not concerned with fancy extras like long words or poetic descriptions.
Use pictures in your content. Have you heard people say that pictures sometimes can get your point across better than words? This saying holds true, even in the blogosphere. Images can convey a wealth of information, especially that which words cannot adequately describe. As a result, it makes sense to incorporate pictures wherever possible.
You have to hook in readers from the first sentence in order to get people to visit your blog. Popular bloggers have already learned how to do this. Applying these tips can be a big help in having a blog that draws in more readers. Most people blog just for the fun of it, but there is money to be made from blog posting if you are so inclined. No matter what the reason for your blog, enjoy it!
